Last weekend (9/3/13), a video of filmmaker Tyler Perry praying for Bishop T.D. Jakes went viral. Some Christians expressed strong opinions about the event. See video below! You can leave your own comments at the very bottom of the page!
The reason I’m sharing it here is that not only has it spawned 100’s of comments and sparked controversy in the Christian Community but several of those comments are mine and they in turn have generated some interesting discussions that I thought necessary to share here!
Here’s the Video – The Comments Are Below
Here’s My First Comment:
All was going well until Mr. Perry, in the middle of his testimony began spitting Tongues and Praising God! It was then that the power of God hit me and I started spitting tongues and exalting God likewise.
I tell you, I haven’t had a glorious praise session like that in a long while from just watching a YouTube Video.
If I had any doubts about Tyler Perry… They’re gone! In my humble opinion, Tyler Perry is as Born Again as the Apostle Peter and led by the Holy Ghost as well!
God bless him and bless the work of his hands as long as they continue to glorify God! Amen! Watch the video and judge for yourself by the Spirit of God!
This is a reply from someone named David Yackley:
So as you and Perry were spitting tongues was anyone there to translate? The only glory and praise given on that clip were to two sinful men, none given to the King of Kings, Lord of Lords. What I heard, God is a vending machine and if you put enough dollars in it, you will get lots of goodies back. How does this line up with the gospel? The gospel of Jesus, who was a broke, homeless man. Look at your own writing, it’s all about Perry. You wrote Perry’s name three times, yet the name of Jesus escaped you. When you or any man takes the stage, the alter or the podium, preach Jesus. The bible isn’t about you, my friend, it’s not about me, it’s not about a Holy God who is just begging and waiting to bless you. The bible is about a Holy God, who came into human history as a man to save you from yourself. The bible points towards one thing, Jesus. The Lord your God is not sitting on His throne waiting to bless you…….because He did that very thing on the cross. Look at the blessed cross, do you really need anything more than that?
And here’s my reply to David:
Brother David, believe it or not I know exactly where you are coming from because I was there once too.
For the first 9 years of my Christian life I was a member of a typical Pentecostal church which preached hellfire and damnation to everyone, including Christians.
We were very big on what we considered “Holiness” and had a lot to say about other Christians who did not believe and live as we did.
Sitting on our self-righteous throne judging others and feeling oh so superior to those who were living beneath the supposedly high biblical standards we had set for ourselves.
My Brother, when God called me to my own Ministry in 1997 the first thing He did was to deliver me from that Pharisaic spirit and put real love in my heart for the Brethren and real joy of the Holy Spirit.
Since then I have learned things like compassion and mercy, like tolerance and empathy.
I realize that you can’t help being where you are spiritually right now as it’s a product of what you were taught by your elders and through the example they set.
But Brother, I can tell you with clarity and certainty that based on your comment above your position is seriously flawed according to the Gospel of the Grace of God.
I pray that the light of the true Gospel will shine in your heart and that God will give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened so that you will know exactly what you need to know to fulfill your purpose and destiny in Christ Jesus! Amen!

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them:otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Everest John Alexander:
This man was not “sounding a trumpet” he was giving his testimony of being led by the Spirit of God and getting confirmation of what he heard the Lord say to him to give.
There’s a difference!
Everest. I may not be able to ‘Judge by the ‘spirit” seeing that I’m extremely unsure of the type of ‘spirit’ we’re dealing with here, but I can (according to 1John4:1) “Test or Try the spirits whether they are of God” through the Bible!
Besides, when you give a testimony, you express what God has given to you, NOT WHAT YOU’VE GIVEN TO GOD!
Don’t get caught up by the excitement and hype of the ‘show’. The Scriptures are very clear on this subject. They have their reward. Soon, all will see.
Jesus healed a woman on the Sabbath Day and instead of the Pharasees rejoicing and celebrating God’s goodness they were angry that He did it on the wrong day!
Jesus called them snakes and hypocrites!
A woman of ill repute anointed Jesus with spices giving Him a very expensive gift in the process and the Pharasees instead of rejoicing were angry with the woman.
Jesus rebuked them and praised the woman!
Tyler Perry gave $1 million dollars to the Kingdom of God and some people are angry about it for what reason I don’t even know.
I’m wondering who needs to check which spirit they are being led by??
You know, Bro. Alexander, I don’t usually get in on these types of discussions because I find it fruitless, but I became so irritated with us “so called Christians”. It amazes me that someone can have so much discernment and prophetic insight that they can see into a man’s heart and know his relationship with God the Father, Christ his Savior and the Holy Spirit his comforter.
This is, in fact, why people do not want to be saved. Not because a Tyler Perry laid hands on a man and prayed a sincere prayer of blessing and abundance or because surely he is not filled with the spirit of the Lord, but because thanks to us judgmental, lie-living, broke but we know everything Christians, there is no room for mistakes or for a difference in what we deem to be “ministry”.
If you don’t do it (ministry) a couple of ways you obviously are not saved.
God is so much bigger than that and yet he comes down to our little selves and loves us and communes with us. I submit that the average person reading these blogs who has not already come into the knowledge of Christ may never come if based upon the judgements and discord displayed here among we who are supposed the “Saints” with the truth of the true and living God.
I submit that God himself is not pleased with this behavior as it brings shame to His name. I submit a prayer of repentance on the behalf of all who know God the Father so personally and are so clean and holy that they have forgotten the sin they came from. God bless you and peace be unto you!
My Sister… I could not put that any better than you just did! I agree with every word!
And thanks for the blessing!
To be very honest with you I always see these discussions as a two-edged sword.
On the one hand, answering some of these people may promote the appearance of discord in the family of God and may turn off some seekers.
But on the other hand, just allowing them free course to preach false doctrine unchecked may also have the effect of swaying the minds of the unenlightened.
So, where do we draw the line?
As a Bible Teacher of 23 years I simply cannot stand idly by while the word of God is mishandled and misquoted.
There is an anointing on the inside of me that will simply not allow wrong doctrine to be shared in my presence and go unchallenged!
I simply can’t do it!
It’s like Paul said, Woe is me if I preach not the gospel!
Well, woe is me if I correct not wrong doctrine!
I try to be as respectful and as understanding as I can and allow the readers to judge and make up their own minds between what is true and false and what is sound doctrine and what is false doctrine.
May God bless you as well my Sister and give you grace!

We can all be born again and not transformed through the power of God. If he really wanted to be a light and a testimony to the dark world of sinners, to convert them and to attract those who would
receive Christ, then he should start showing the truth about God in his movies instead of promoting the filth of the world. Everybody knows what garbage smells like, we don’t need our faces rubbed in
it to believe it’s there. We need to be transformed through the renewing of our minds from darkness to light and draw those out of the gutter that want out but don’t know how to find a way out. Jesus
is the Way the Truth and the Life and if He be lifted up, HE will draw all men unto Himself.
Everest John Alexander:
1) I have a problem with Christians who are quick to judge and condemn others who are actually doing something to promote the Gospel while they cannot show what THEY are doing to help build the
kingdom of God!
2) I have a problem with Christians who quote scripture out of context and without understanding to support their unscriptural religious ideas of what the Bible actually means.
Case in point: You quoted Matthew 7:21-23 apparently to show that Tyler Perry may not make it into Heaven.
FYI, that portion of scripture cannot possibly be referring to Born Again Christians and here’s why:
Jesus said, “Depart from Me I NEVER knew you”
This same Jesus said in John 10:14 “I am the good shepherd; and I KNOW My sheep”
IN John 10:27 He said again, “My sheep hear My voice, and I KNOW them” So, if He says to anybody I NEVER knew you then obviously, they were NEVER saved!
To be saved is to be KNOWN by God!
What I’m about to say now is going to open a whole new can of worms but you need to hear it:
Salvation is eternal! It has no end! No Christian can lose their salvation … that’s a lie from the pit of hell!
Salvation is a Gift from God and… “God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.” Romans 11:2 Furthermore, Jesus said: 6″My sheep know my voice, and I know them. They follow me, and I give them eternal life, SO THAT
THEY WILL NEVER BE LOST. No one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father gave them to me, and he is greater than all others. No one can snatch them from his hands.” John 10:27-29
3 points to note here, Jesus said:
a) A Christian can never be lost
b) A Christian is in Jesus’ Hand meaning HE (Jesus) is holding on to you NOT you holding on to Him, therefore your safety (Salvation) is up to HIM not up to YOU!
c) As if that wasn’t secure enough you are also in the Father’s Hand and Jesus said NO ONE can take you out of the Father’s hand and if Jesus said no one that means NO ONE … not even YOU!
The idea that someone who is eternally saved by God can somehow undo what God has done by His eternal power is ludicrous!
