How does the enlightened Christian achieve victory in their personal life?
How do we as Christians defeat evil and overcome sin on a daily basis?
In answering these questions I believe there is much we can learn from the movie, The Matrix.
For instance… The greatest lesson Neo ever learnt was… There is NO spoon!
When Neo went to visit The Oracle the kid said to him, “Do not try and bend the spoon, that’s impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth…there is no spoon. Then you will see it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.”
This is a perfect illustration of the Gospel of Grace.
Anytime you approach successful Christian living by trying to defeat the devil you’ve already lost the battle.
You’ve already lost because you are TRYING TO DEFEAT THE DEVIL (You’re trying to bend the spoon)
The only way to defeat the devil is to realize the truth, he is already defeated and there is no struggle (there is no spoon)
Then you will realize it is you who bends (You will realize it is your perspective that has to change in order to live in victory)
Your mindset is the problem NOT the devil!
The Bible says, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1st John 3:8
“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:13-15
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19
There is no spoon… there is no fight with the devil!
It is you who bends… It is your mindset that has to change!
We pray FROM victory not FOR victory!
The devil is already defeated and we are required to maintain that victory which was bought for us with Jesus’ own blood!
The devil’s only real weapon against the Christian is deception!
Who God blesses no man can curse. If Satan can get you to believe the lie then he can get you to live defeated lives.
We’ve been fed this picture of Satan as the big bad wolf and we are the 3 little pigs… This is utter nonsense!!!
The reality is that he is like a mouse caught in a mouse trap but with the ability to create powerful illusions.
So he can create the illusion of himself as a ferocious lion about to pounce on you or even more effectively, he can create the illusion that your friend, family member, neighbor, co-worker is your problem and they need to be stopped!
If he can get us fighting each other that’s the ONLY way he can defeat us because we end up doing his dirty work for him!
His head is in a vise, his neck is broken, his fate is already sealed so his only recourse now is to take down as many of us with him as he possibly can with his last dying breaths.
If you’re Born Again, that’s the reality of the devil and you!
But as long as you believe his lies that somebody else is your problem then he has you right where he wants you.
That’s why the Race War exists in America!
Minorities think Whites are their problem and Whites think Minorities are their problem and nobody is focusing on the real enemy!
The devil has one strategy… divide and conquer!
Pit humans against each other, then sit back and watch them destroy one another!
Cops against Civilians! Rich against Poor! Democrats against Republicans!
The Nazis thought the Jews were a problem so… The Holocaust!
The Roman Catholic Church thought that everyone who wasn’t converted was a problem so… The Inquisition, The Crusades!
Muslim Extremists think that everyone who isn’t converted is a problem so… Worldwide terrorism!
Ignorant Christians think that Abortionists, Atheists and Homosexuals are the problem so … Hate and Bigotry!
And the Mastermind behind the scene is pulling everybody’s strings!
So, what’s the answer?
What does the enlightened Christian do???
You don’t protest with placards in the streets trying to change people’s minds by shouting them down… that’s an exercise in futility!
You don’t self-righteously segregate yourself from sinners thinking that you are too good to associate with them… that’s not Christlike!
You don’t play church while ignoring the real problem hoping it will go away… that’s being lukewarm and Jesus said He’ll vomit you out for that!
Here’s what you do: You Pray, you Preach and you Practice!
PRAY: Only the power of God can effect real change in an individual so, as a Christian your primary response to any and all negativity in the world must be intercessory prayer!
Bible-based, effective prayer is the conduit through which the healing, saving, delivering power of God flows from Heaven to Earth and affects men’s lives!
It is only in partnering with God in prayer that we can begin to truly exercise our dominion of the planet!
PREACH: In most cases there is no substitute for actually telling people about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ!
There is a habit the average Christian has which is not scriptural but which seems like the status quo in modern-day Christianity, that is to invite our unsaved associates to go to church with us.
Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing intrinsically wrong with inviting someone to church but the problem occurs when we use this as our chief means of evangelizing the lost.
The Bible never said “go invite them to church” it said, go and preach, that means actually tell people about the gospel ourselves and not rely on the Pastor to do our jobs for us.
Jesus went and mingled with the sinners, telling them about the kingdom of God!
Likewise, the effective Christian must be adept at explaining the Gospel to someone and leading them into receiving the free gift of salvation personally.
There is no substitute for this!
PRACTICE: Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.
One person said it like this, “Preach the gospel everywhere, use words only when necessary!
My wife was instrumental in converting me to Christianity without ever speaking a single word to me about Christ.
I simply saw her life and wanted what she had!
PLUS… she interceded for me every single day for 5 1/2 months at the end of which I was gloriously born again and converted to Christ!
The bottom line is, we must live our lives in such a way as to create a desire in others to have what we have!
And a major aspect of living in victory and success is to first realize… There is no spoon!
“We are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Rom 8:37
“And made us kings and priests to our God, and we will reign on earth.” Rev 5:10
