Free Will and Time vs. Purpose and Destiny
Once you are alive on planet earth you have the ability to influence the world around you.
Free Will and Time are gifts given to you to impact the society in which you live.
During every 24 hour period you create an impact on your immediate environment.
Whether you speak or don’t speak – act or don’t act – your very consciousness influences the atmosphere around you.
If just your living consciousness affects everything around you, more so when you deliberately think and speak and act… with purpose!
Every decision you make and every action that follows influences life on a global scale. This may be hard to believe but it’s true.
You have heard of the concept of 6 degrees of separation, first posited by Frigyes Karinthy decades ago, where each human being is connected to every other human being on the planet by 6 different people.
Whether this is accurate or not the truth is that each person is connected to someone who is connected to someone else who is connected to another person and so on.
In this way each human being is connected to every other human being on earth, so every decision you make ultimately affects everyone else you are connected to, no matter how minute the latent effect would be.
The point is… You matter!!! Your decisions affect other people!
Your life has purpose even if you never discover that purpose and fulfill it, you still affect life on this planet.
How beautiful it is then, when you actually discover why you are here and actively engage in fulfilling your destiny to the best of your ability.
How much influence can you have on the society in which you live?
How much can you change the world for the better?
How many lives can you better by your touch or how deeply can you affect that one life you have influence over?
Six Degrees of Billy Graham
Have you ever considered, how D.L. Moody came to Christ?
It is said that Dwight Lyman Moody is the greatest evangelist of all time. His 40-year ministry saw one million souls saved, he founded three Christian schools, launched a great Christian publishing business, established a world-renowned Christian conference center, and inspired literally thousands of preachers to win souls for Christ.
He founded The Moody Church which has sent thousands of Missionaries all over the world and became so popular that even President Abraham Lincoln once attended service.
The Moody Bible Institute is one of the most prestigious Christian Institutes of Higher Learning with a radio outreach owning and operating 36 stations, providing programming to over 700 outlets.
But how did all this begin?
It began with a simple Sunday School Teacher named Edward Kimball who personally led D.L. Moody to Christ in the shoe store where Moody worked.
If that was the end of the story it would still be an impressive story for Edward Kimball… but there’s more.
Dwight Moody went on to have a profound impact on the life and ministry of F.B. Meyer who wrote over 75 books including Bible Commentaries, who in turn influenced J. Wilbur Chapman who helped convert baseball player Billy Sunday to Christ.
Billy Sunday became a well-known Evangelist reaching millions for Christ who had a profound impact upon a man named, Mordecai Ham.
Mordecai Ham led over 300,000 to Christ one of whom was a 16 year old youth during a revival in North Carolina… That young man was Billy Graham.
Everybody knows the name, Billy Graham because he has impacted the lives of multiple millions for Christ but there exists a chain of events leading up to his conversion that begins with a one person… who influenced a single life.
Maybe Edward Kimball’s only purpose in life was to lead D.L. Moody to Christ but that one act has resulted in multiplied millions being saved and entering the Kingdom of God.
The purpose of Kimball’s life may have been singular in that one deed as opposed to Billy Graham’s life which has impacted billions but who is to say which life is greater?
The beauty is that in Christ there is no competition… only cooperation.
Each man will have his just reward for the part he played in moving God’s grand plan forward.
God Does NOT Reward Deeds… Only Obedience
In the mind of God there are no greater nor lesser deeds when it comes to being rewarded at the end of time… There are only degrees of obedience.
The person who’s purpose is to lead just one person to Christ in their entire life will be rewarded according to the degree of their obedience in fulfilling that single task.
The person who’s purpose is to lead millions to Christ will be rewarded according to their obedience in fulfilling that task.
Both of them will be given exactly the same reward for fulfilling their respective tasks.
Billy Graham has reached an estimated audience of 2.2 Billion people and reportedly led over 3 million to Christ, whereas Edward Kimball has on record only led a single soul to Christ but if both men obeyed God to the best of their abilities they both will receive exactly the same reward at the end of time.
God rewards faithful obedience to His will for YOUR LIFEÂ not you trying to imitate another person’s life or fulfill another person’s destiny!
Whether you’re called to impact many, few, or just one… your life has a purpose and you have a destiny to fulfill.
Your life matters!
Thank you, brother Alexander. A stimulating and encouraging discussion; it was especially pleasant to review the chain of relationships linking D.L. Moody and Billy Graham. It seems very possible that with the advent of the internet, the classic ‘six degrees’ principle may be amplified, and the steps of relationship linking nearly everyone on earth reduced from six to a smaller number. In any case, your site and your own story make it clear that you value the free will and time God have given you, and are making the most of both in His service. Blessings and best wishes, Will Hensel, Houston.

Hello Everest, This is so powerful. It helps us to step back and look at the big picture of our lives and our influence as we share Jesus with others. My mother was led to the Lord at a Billy Graham crusade and she led me to the Lord. So I guess that means I am 2 degrees away from Billy Graham and 8 degrees from Edward Kimball. Praise God! I want to be obedient every day to share Him with others so the exponential progression can continue. Blessings, Amy Hagerup
