Lusting: Law vs. Grace

He made peace between Jews and Gentiles
by creating in himself one new people
from the two groups. Ephesians 2:15
The average Christian is being manipulated by Satan into fighting the WRONG battles and deceived into believing they’re winning so they end up losing the RIGHT battles and feeling good about it..
Here’s an example:
Christians are fighting to keep the 10 commandments displayed in public places and even get them back into schools when the bible describes the 10 commandments as the ministry of death and condemnation.
The Bible says, “Who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. But if the ministry of death, written and engraved in stones was glorious…” 2nd Corinthians 3:6-7
The only part of the Old Covenant Law written and engraved in stones is the 10 commandments and this is what the Lord describes as the ministry of death.
In the same chapter, while comparing the old and new covenants God says, “For if the ministry of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed in glory. 2nd Corinthians 3:9
The ministry of condemnation is the Old Covenant with the 10 commandments as it’s cornerstone.
The ministry of righteousness is the New Covenant of Grace with justification by faith as it’s cornerstone.
Some Christians are fighting to keep the ten commandments in effect while resisting the message of Grace. They’re unwittingly working for the enemy on two fronts at the same time.
Here’s wisdom… The ten Commandments were NEVER meant to make anyone righteous or holy!
They were always meant to highlight man’s sinful condition, his inability to meet God’s standard of righteousness and his dire need for a savior.
The purpose of the 10 commandments was always to point Israel to their Messiah, Christ Jesus.
Paul said, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Gal 3:24-25
As a Born Again Christian you no longer need to be guided by the 10 commandments… WHY? Because you are now under a NEW and BETTER Covenant with BETTER principles governing it. (Heb 8:6)
Here’s what Christians who fight FOR the 10 commandments are completely oblivious to… We Born Again Christians are held to a HIGHER standard of holiness than what the 10 commandments require!
When you try to live by the 10 commandments you are stepping DOWN in your level of holiness NOT up!
Jesus explained this quite clearly when He said, “Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment…” Matt 5:21-22
The Ten Commandments says, “Thou shall not kill” the New Covenant commandment says, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:9-10
You tell me, which of these demands a higher standard of conduct?
Jesus also said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matt 5:27-28
The old covenant says, “You shall not commit adultery” the new covenant says, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” Eph 5:25, 28-29
The new command doesn’t just say, “don’t commit adultery, it gives the Christian man the mandate to love his wife the same way Jesus loves His Church.
Jesus’ love for His Bride compelled Him to die in her place with the most agonizing death a man could possibly suffer.
Which love is greater, simply not committing adultery or loving your wife so much that you would rather die than hurt her, such is your commitment to putting her needs before your own?
Christians who fight FOR the Ten Commandments and AGAINST the message of Grace lack a proper understanding of the difference between the Old and New Covenants and need to study to show themselves approved, rightly dividing between the two.
Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” Matt 5:43-44
Christians who think it’s a big deal obeying the 10 Commandments, do you understand that under The 10 Commandments (Law) you are allowed to hate your enemies but under the New Covenant (Grace) you are not?
Magnifying the 10 Commandments is a step backward NOT forward. If the 10 commandments cannot save you, neither can they keep you.
Were you saved by keeping the 10 commandments, or by confessing faith in Christ? The power that saves you is the same power that keeps you.
If something lacks the power to make you holy, it also lacks the power to keep you holy.
Paul asked the Galatians, “Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?
The same question can be asked of Christians today.
